Sant'Egidio: fair of bells and toys
Lanciano fills with the sounds and colors of bells
In a nutshell
The St. Aegidius Fair is one of the most colorful and festive events of September in Lanciano. This symbol is owed to St. Aegidius, patron saint of the sick, including lepers. These carried a stick with a rattle so that people would be warned of their arrival. Hence the bell, which, however, has taken on a whole other meaning over time. Today this gift is exchanged between lovers.
Many other objects can then be found at the Fair: toys of all kinds, pieces of handicrafts, various artifacts.
