Palio of the Friend of Arsoli

On June 28, 997, as the Regesto Sublacense attests, the community of Arsoli was born, which is why one of the most important re-enactments for the village, the Palio dell'Amico, is celebrated at the end of June. The Palio is inspired by a character later than the birth of the village but fundamental to the history and prestige of Arsoli, Amico Passamonti, lord of Arsoli in the 16th century. In his honor, every year the Palio is held, which begins on Saturday with a historical procession in period dress accompanied by the notes of musicians and the roll of drums, followed by flag-wavers. The following day is the Palio of the Archers of the Company of the Four Historic Villages of Arsoli, with contests of skill and arms. All events take place in the shadow of the magnificent Massimo Castle. One of the most anticipated moments is the "Convivio dei Borghi" in Valeria Square, where dishes related to local tradition are served with excellent local products.
