Middle Ages in Montopoli

Each year Montopoli holds one of the oldest historical reenactments in a particularly evocative setting. The event lasts two days and re-enacts an important historical event that involved the village. Within the walls of the castle of Montopoli in 1329 a fundamental Peace Treaty was signed between the Pisans, the Florentines and the other Castles of Tuscany. The re-enactment begins with a sumptuous medieval dinner set up in Piazza San Matteo, during which a menu typical of medieval courts is served. During the festive days, taverns are opened, where you can also enjoy the typical "Ciaccino" of Montopoli, of traditional bread baked in the oven and flavored with olive oil and rosemary. On the last day, the "Disfida con l'arco" (Archery Challenge) is also held between the village's two contrade, that of "Santo Stefano" and that of "San Giovanni."
