In a nutshell
Bonorva's most important event is undoubtedly "Le Pariglie," which traditionally takes place on the days of "pentolaccia," the Saturday and Sunday following Mardi Gras.
This is a spectacular augural equestrian display that recovers the ancient traditions of the area. Leading the event is "Su Asone de Carrasegare," who symbolically represents the one who once ruled the horses during the threshing period.
It is Su Asone himself who kicks off the festivities on Saturday morning, accompanied by a group of horsemen and the Asone's horse, which is "dressed" in a green and blue cloth representing the municipality's coat of arms.
After greeting the mayor, to whom the horse's banner is handed, the event begins.
Thus begins the opening parade to the sound of drums and trumpets, during which the Asone and his escorts will perform acrobatic acts on horseback.
The following day, the pariglie (in which more than 30 riders also participate) will continue, and the "S'Ischiglia" race will be held, a race with an auspicious meaning in which a prize is awarded to whoever at a gallop manages to pierce a model of the necklace-an embroidered band that adorns the horse's chest-where a bell, s'ischiglia to be precise, is attached.
The festival ends with a fireworks display.
