The Majorcan Festival

"A maiurchèa" is a wheel of local sheep's milk cheese-weighing between 10 and 12 kilograms-that is thrown with the "mazzacorto" (a string) along the Falanga Valley and along the road that leads to the Don Michele plane. The competition takes place every year on Carnival afternoons and features teams of two or three shooters competing. The cheese rolls and must reach the finish line. The team that crosses the finish line in the least number of throws wins. After the fun competition, a "maccheronata" is held in the square with bread, wine and, of course, a delicious sprinkling of Majorcan cheese.
