The Infiorata of "Carti Rizzi"

On the occasion of the feast of Corpus Christi in Castelbuono, the "Carti Rizzi," a paper infiorata, is celebrated. At the end of the celebrations, Eucharistic adoration takes place in the afternoon at the Mother Church followed by a solemn procession that parades for about a kilometer and a half through the village and in which religious associations and seventeen congregations participate, each with its own banner. On the sides of the streets traversed by the procession, some 300 works of art are made with rose petals and wildflowers, but above all the "Carti Rizzi," compositions created with strips of colored paper - cut and curled - that symbolize the steps of Paradise. All the compositions represent religious themes with crosses, chalices and flowers. The streets of Castelbuono are transformed into an open-air gallery in an atmosphere of deep devotion. Even balconies are decorated with embroidered blankets to celebrate this festive day when typical delicacies, such as "cuddriri fritti" and "sfinci," are also enjoyed.
