The Siege of the Villa
Poggio a Caiano's engaging historical event
In a nutshell
During the second week of September, "The Siege of the Villa" is held in Caiano. The streets of the historic center come alive with a procession in historic clothes from the Medici era, and wine is poured from the Mascherone - the town's historic fountain near the Medici Villa.
The wedding between Archduchess Giovanna D'Austria and Prince Francesco I De'Medici is re-enacted for the occasion. The festival lasts three days and ends with a magnificent fireworks display.
