Feast of the Blessed Virgin of Defense

On September 8, for about two centuries, the feast in honor of the Blessed Virgin of Defense has been celebrated in Stintino. Its origin is due to the religious confraternity "Beata Vergine della Difesa" to which all villagers over the age of 12 are enrolled. The event that coincides with the feast of the patron saint of Stintino with the passage of time has been extended until it is celebrated over a week with various side activities. The most striking moment, however, is held on the very afternoon of the 8th when a particularly evocative procession takes place, starting from the Church of Stintino and reaching the sea, where the simulacrum of the virgin is carried on a fishermen's boat. At the end of the procession at sea, a crown is thrown into the water to remember those who lost their lives in that sea. It then returns to the village where a fireworks and musical show is held. Other musical and theatrical performances, wine and cookie tastings, and even a Fish Festival, held annually in 45 Square, are organized during the other days of the festival.
