The Ventimiglia Joust in Geraci Siculo

Every year with the Joust of the Ventimiglias, the splendor that characterized the court of the Ventimiglia family, which arrived in Sicily in the 13th century, is relived. The Ventimiglias transformed Geraci Siculo into a county of great prestige, obtaining privileges such as the minting of their own coinage and the freedom to administer justice. Just to celebrate that period, Geraci Siculo returns to relive the Middle Ages for a weekend with the oath of knights that kicks off the Joust. In the archaeological area of the castle during the first two days there is "U conti cumanna," a re-enactment of ancient crafts and scenes of daily life typical of medieval times. On Sunday, again in historical costumes, the reenactment of a happy event experienced by the Ventimiglias, the baptism of their firstborn son or the marriage of the Count, takes place. At the end of the re-enactment the knightly games begin, in which the athletes compete in the Saracen joust, the ring joust and the rose joust.
