The fogheraccia, focheraccia or focarina (fugarà za in the Rimini area, fugaréna in the rest of Romagna) is a popular ritual typical of Romagna folklore held every year on the evening of March 18. The festival, widespread throughout Romagna, consists of lighting large bonfires in which to burn, according to the most recent custom, old furniture, pruning scraps or other woody material to celebrate the end of the winter season.
