The Lake Festival

One of the most anticipated events in the town of Varenna is the "Festa del Lago," held every year on the first weekend of July. The event kicks off with the inauguration of Varenna's "Lucia" boat, followed by the historical re-enactment of the 1169 burning of Comacina Island and the landing of the islanders-which is held at the riva Grande-and a spectacular play of colors and fireworks on the lake. There is no shortage of food stands where you can enjoy traditional local products and dishes.
