The living nativity scene in Bocchignano
Christmas in Bocchignano: an embrace of love and tradition in the village nights
Bocchignano is a small medieval village in the municipality of Monopoli di Sabina that at Christmas brings tradition and love to its streets through the beautiful living nativity scene it organizes. It is not a simple celebration, but a moment of recollection for the whole community and an invitation to reflect on our history: the nativity scene takes its cue from the nativity in Jacopo da Varagine's Legenda Aurea, an important 13th-century text of the Christian tradition, and from the visit that Cardinal Hispano made to our castle in 1343.
This embrace in the village square and streets is also an invitation to embrace the present of this crazy world, its complexities, its frailties, in the hope of starting the New Year in a new light.
