The Palio del Raglio

For a good two decades, the month of August in the municipality of Cembra Lisignago has been marked by great festivities because a truly "sui generis" Palio, the Palio del Raglio, is celebrated for three days. This is Palio whose protagonists are not horses, but donkeys. The festival begins amid traditional music concerts, masquerade parades, food stalls and art workshops, also aimed at children. The most anticipated moment is precisely the donkey race in which the six districts of the town compete. The race is particularly fun because donkeys are more unpredictable than horses, and often the races are more rousing and funny. At the end of the race, the winning contrada is carried in triumph and the festivities continue well into the night.
