Games of the Doors

During the three days of the palio, the town is immersed in a medieval atmosphere, reviving the ancient palio of St. Michael the Archangel, the town's patron saint. For the occasion, the streets are tinged with the colors of the four gates: St. Benedict (yellow and blue), St. Donato (yellow and white), St. Facondino (yellow and green) and St. Martin (yellow and red), which compete for the Palio and the privilege of burning the "witch," Gualdo's ancient enemy, to whom the terrible fire that destroyed the town is attributed.
