Celebrations for Our Lady of Splendor

The religious festival is meant to commemorate the apparition that occurred on April 22 in a year between the late 15th and early 16th centuries. The grandiose festivities, featuring a horse palio, now suspended, splendid illuminations, music by leading national band groups, a fair and fireworks displays, reach their climax in the solemn morning procession on April 22, when the statue of Our Lady of Splendor emerges from the Cathedral of St. Flaviano to walk through the streets of the upper part of Giulianova, accompanied by the colors of the confraternities and the music of the bands, and stop in Belvedere Square for the Eucharistic celebration, presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of Teramo-Atri.
