Feast of St. Michael in Bagnacavallo
The arrival of autumn between religious traditions and food and wine
In a nutshell
In late September, Bagnacavallo celebrates its patron saint, St. Michael, marking the transition from the summer to the fall season. The first celebrations in honor of the saint date back to the 13th century ,and over the past few years, the liturgical rite has been joined by performances, concerts in the square, local craft booths and guided tours of the village. One of the most engaging community moments is the ball game with the bracelet, one of the oldest and most typical games in Romagna.
The event is closely linked to the food and wine of the area, with taverns offering traditional dishes for the occasion. The streets of Bagnacavallo will be filled with the scent of traditional sweets prepared in the bakeries, such as mistochine (simple sweets made with chestnut flour, water and milk) and the mouth-watering St. Michael's cake made with panna cotta, almonds, walnuts and pine nuts. An event to immerse yourself in the hospitality and cheerfulness typical of Romagna.
