Carrasciali Timpiesu

Carnival in Tempio Pausania has very ancient origins and is celebrated every year with great participation by the town's inhabitants. The main mask is King George, who kicks off the celebration with his triumphal entrance on Shrove Thursday. The mask represents power in all its forms. Sunday marks the wedding between King George and the commoner Mannena from whose union the next carnival will be born. Six days of music, dancing and merriment end with the "Death of Carnival," when King George is burned at the stake.
