Feast of St. Luke and Festival of Ciavarrotto in Maranola
A festival that recalls the agro-pastoral flavors of the Aurunci Mountains
In a nutshell
In Maranola (LT)-on October 18 each year-the patron saint St. Luke is celebrated and, after Mass and the procession of the saint through the alleys of the village, the traditional Sagra del Ciavarrotto is held. Ciavarrootto is an adult goat at least 10 months old, whose meat is normally used to flavor tomato sauce, used in the preparation of pasta dishes or served as a main course.
This is a typical local dish that strongly recalls the ancient agro-pastoral traditions of the Aurunci Mountains, Lazio's southernmost mountain range and protected area.
The rendezvous is at Piazza Antonio Ricca in Maranola, where the evening will be enlivened-aside from the flavors of ciavarrotto-also with good wine, live music, singing and dancing.
