Torre di Ruggiero, the Virgin and hazelnuts
Torre di Ruggiero, in the province of Catanzaro, lies in the middle valley of the Ancinale. Its historic centre is a thousand-year-old village made up of narrow streets, traditional houses and a few more decorated buildings. It is a very beautiful and interesting village to visit: for the more devout, there is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Graces, linked to a Marian apparition in the 17th century, and the beautiful church of Santa Domenica. But those who prefer to travel by following their appetite will also be happy: Torre di Ruggiero is a centre for the cultivation of the round hazelnut of Calabria... the best way to taste it? Hazelnut gelato!
