Mongiana and industrial archaeology
Mongiana, in the province of Vibo Valentia, lies in the Serre Calabresi in a strategic position: nestled among the mountains from which alloy and minerals were extracted, close to the Allaro stream and the Ionian Sea, ideal trade routes between the 18th and 19th centuries. It was in this setting that the industrial complex of the ironworks and arms factory of Mongiana developed, still deeply influencing the town today, and whose remains form one of the richest sections of the Ecomuseum of the Ironworks and Foundries of Calabria.
