He is a Lucanian babau. It has the appearance of a snake, with a huge mouth full of sharp teeth, long sharp claws, and a body covered with scales. Like real snakes, it lurks in dark places, in abandoned houses and ruins, and attacks suddenly. It does not kill, but it does a terrible thing: it eats the skin of children's hands! "idd t pigliav a man e s mangiav a pedd" Hence its name, which stands for "shorten-the-hand."
On the streets of Rapone
Although he prefers ruins, caves and basements, he is also encountered on the streets of Rapone, near the old fountain: he hides in the bushes with an eerie grin. He has his claws unsheathed, ready to grab you....
