On the Calabrian Serre Road
From Soverato to Mount Cucco, the proposal covers the Ionian section of the road that cuts through the Serre from east to west

The itinerary follows State Highway 182-"Strada delle Serre Calabre," which serves as a link between the Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas, passing from the province of Catanzaro to that of Vibo Valentia. The proposal concerns the Ionian side of the ridge and in this case the two sides of the picturesque Ancinale Valley. It starts from the well-known seaside resort of Soverato, climbing among the first undulations towards Gagliato (m 450) and Argusto (m 530). Once past the step that introduces the basin of Chiaravalle Centrale (m 545), the road rises again toward Torre di Ruggiero (m 590) and continues to the junction with Provincial Road 110 of Mount Cucco and Mount Pecoraro.

An important landmark of the Serre, Mount Cucco (m 958) pivots the itinerary and contributes to it with its splendid beech forests. The return route descends the Ancinale valley again, but on the opposite side, where it passes through Cardinale and (m 560) and Satriano (m 293) before joining State Highway 182 in the early Ionian hinterland. Overall, this is a road loop with a high scenic content, from the Mediterranean olive grove to the mountainous zone where chestnut trees gradually give way to beech forests. Of note, the diversion from Cardinale up to the splendid Conca della Lacina (m 980).
