What it is and where it is Poggio Torriana
Poggio Torriana is a very young municipality in the hills of Romagna overlooking the Marecchia Valley. Young because its establishment dates back to 2014, although looking at it, among the fortresses, fortifications and ancient buildings, you really wouldn't think so, and the trick is soon revealed: Poggio Torriana is the result of the union of two municipalities, Poggio Berni and Torriana. To visit it, one has to move from hill to hill, from village to village. All while enjoying the views of the area: the hills, Valamrecchia, San Marino and the Adriatic Sea. The time has come to take a little trip through the wonders of the widespread municipality of Poggio Torriana.

The village of Poggio Berni is now the seat of the scattered municipality of Poggio Torriana, and it is here that the journey begins. The village opens a window into the life of yesteryear: the beautiful palaces tell of great lords and powerful families, while the ancient mills that remain along the course of the Marecchia speak of the daily life of the people and the fields. It is nice to explore the surroundings along the many paths here. There is even one along the disused Santarcangelo - Urbino railway. And just as you leave the village, the time comes to head toward Torriana.
Torriana and its castle
Torriana is the medieval village overlooked by a castle and tower. A visit to the castle is a must. Known today as Due Torri Castle, it was once called "della Scorticata" and was part of the defensive structures the Malatesta family had in the hills of Romagna. But there are other famous names thought to be linked to the castle. According to some speculation, it was here that the sons of Paolo, Francesca's lover whom Dante met at Infermo, avenged the death of their father, who was killed by his brother, the husband of the beautiful Francesca.
The Castle of Montebello
Rumors and legends get stronger at the nearby castle of Montebello, which was a hamlet of Torriana (and today of Poggio Torriana). The structure of the castle is indeed beautiful, with its mighty walls, stairways, halls and the wonderful view from the fortress. But many visitors are attracted by a strange picture hanging on a wall depicting a little girl painted entirely in shades of blue.
Azzurrina, the ghost of Montebello Castle.
The little girl is known as Azzurrina, the daughter of a feudal lord who owed her name to her hair of an unusual azure hue (she was probably an albino). According to legend, the little girl was lost one day in the castle's snowy dungeon, in its vast dungeons, and was never found again. Some say that even today, on June 21, the anniversary of her disappearance, it is possible to hear the little girl's wails.
