The road to Serra San Bruno

The road leading into the heart of the Calabrian Serres

The proposal has as its route the "State Road 110 of Monte Pecoraro and Monte Cucco," named respectively after the highest elevation of the Calabrian Serre and the peak that most northerly represents a significant junction point. The road detaches from the "State Road 106 Jonica" near Monasterace Marina and climbs the picturesque valley of the Stilaro torrent, descending at the Pietra Spada pass (m 1353) after winding its way between the Consolino (m 701) and Mammicomìto (m 1048) mountains. Along the way, the trail touches the towns of Stilo, Pazzano and Bivongi, which introduce the realities of the historic Serre steel district.

Through the spectacular forests of the ridge

Next, the state highway parades by the summit of Mount Pecoraro (m 1423) following the Serre ridge in one of the most spectacular forestry sections with endless beech forests interspersed with pure white spruce formations. The descent continues to the large basin where Serra San Bruno is located , a town of extraordinary historical interest as well as the main gateway to the Serre Regional Park territory. A diversion onto provincial road 501 widens the itinerary to the towns of Mongiana, home of theEcomuseum of the Ferriere and Foundries of Calabria, and Fabrizia, at the foot of Mount Crocco (m 1276).
