An extraordinary house-museum in Ferruzzano Marina bears witness to civic and artistic engagement

Domenico Carteri: art that generates change
Mimmo welcomes us with simplicity into his magical world and watches with amusement as our eyes fill with wonder at every step, among colorful mosaics, statues, fountains and trompe l'oeil. High above, at the bottom of the garden, an Orthodox church is rising! "Building for our land is the duty of every citizen," he tells us. And he, born in Naples in 1960, master sculptor and mosaicist, set designer, art teacher, researcher, chooses to return to his South, chooses to make his home - Villa Zephiros - a monument to that saving art that leaves a mark on hearts and the world.
The house museum: villa Zephiros, a bridge between cultures
A surrounding wall that looks like the sea: a huge mosaic of fish of all shapes, jellyfish, dolphins, waves, seaweed and a large inscription in Greek, a hymn to the sea. And then a whole garden in trompe l'oeil, with lemon trees, vines, flowers, chickens, peacocks, arches with wide perspectives on wheat fields and roads and hills: all in mosaic! And then sculptures and installations: some of Renaissance perfection, others projected into symbolism, others playful and colorful, made of salvaged materials, reminiscent of seabeds and dreams and giving a sense of freedom.
Art installations: messages for men who know how to listen
In each of his works one can read Mediterranean roots, Greek culture, and connections to the sea. His installations explore a multiplicity of techniques and materials and take us into a deep, symbolic and philosophical dimension. Each one calls for pause and reflection. Mimmo addresses the great themes of life: the search for self and the divine, the fall, appearance and substance. "I am what I have been and what I will be": states one of his works.
Not to be missed: "The Origin."
Impossible to summarize what we have seen. So we will just tell you about one of the works that impressed us the most, "The Origin": concentric rings made by endless men and women in dialogue with each other in a dancing web of looks and gestures and ethnicities. It is like a vortex that sucks you in, taking you "in." And right in the center, in the eye of the storm, there is a small mirror: there is us! We, part of the whole, pivot, starting point and ending point.
