Rapone between legend and folklore

The stories told by the town's grandparents, passed down orally from generation to generation, are the greatest wealth of Rapone, a small town but one that has taken on a great task: that of collecting them, preserving them and keeping them alive so that they do not fall into oblivion.

The 5 characters of Rapone's oral tradition

Five figures from the collective imagination that still shape children's fears and are repeatedly evoked by grandparents to keep them away from danger: a Mana Longh, u Scorciaman, u Scazzamauriedd, a Masciar, u Lup Cumunal. They are so close to our daily lives that in Rapone we can even meet them on the street! Follow us! We tell you where.

U Lup Cumunal

A monstrous being, half man and half wolf, roams on full moon nights at Calvary, the crossroads at the entrance to the town. He is a werewolf, struck by a terrible curse!

U Scazzamauriedd

You can find him at Villa Comunale, in the playground among the children. He is a mischievous leprechaun with a red hat that he never part with. He seems nice but he is a dangerous fellow. Be careful!

A Mana Longh and u Scorciaman

Two monstrous snakes lurkat the old fountain. Watch out for their ambushes! A Mana Longh lives at the bottom of the well, and woe betide you if you look out: he will pull you down with that clawed "long hand" of his. U Scorciaman, on the other hand, hides in abandoned ruins. He has lots of sharp teeth and, if he catches you, he will eat the skin off your hands, which he finds really delicious!

In Masciar

Finally, at the edge of the village, where there is the ancient neviera, lives A Masciara, a witch or healer, expert in herbs and magic potions. Here, however, the testimonies of the elders become very circumstantial: many say they actually met her!

A sensory journey

To add to the magic, technology comes to our aid. When we approach the sites of the installations, we see the characters in their ideal habitat and read on a panel everything there is to know about them. But there is a sensor, watchful and discreet: when the sensor senses our presence, as if by magic a voice rises up to tell us their story. And at this point it will be even easier to catch a glimpse, behind a tree or bush, of a ravenous gaze, an unsheathed claw, two cunning little eyes, a brushstroke of red...
