San Fili Castle in Stignano, a Wonder to be Saved
Also known as Casino San Fili, with its unusual architecture, abandoned state and view of the Ionian Sea, it draws you in like a siren's song
Where

What is it and where is San Fili Castle
There are places that seem to whisper stories of nobility and mystery, and San Fili Castle in Stignano is just such a place. Also known as Casino San Fili, this eighteenth-century jewel enchants you with its rare triangular plan that towers solitarily there where the sky and the Calabrian mountains meet. Today, unfortunately, we look at it as a wonder to be saved: time and neglect have rendered it fragile, a wounded giant that awaits with dignity a restoration capable of restoring it to its former glory, a guardian of memories that deserves to be secured.
Not to be missed: the view from San Fili Castle, a balcony over the Ionian Sea.
From the top of the hill on which the castle rests, the gaze is lost in an infinite embrace between the land and the Ionian Sea. From here, the horizon is tinged with a pure blue, the same blue that ships once sailed on, guarded by the imposing coastal towers. One of these is also visible from the castle: the San Fili Tower (or what remains of it) stands out like a faithful guardian facing the Ionian Sea. It is a sight that warms the heart and invites reflection, where the wild beauty of Calabrian nature perfectly frames the remains of an architecture that never ceases to excite anyone who stops to observe it.
Fun fact: Around Casino San FIli.
Although we are closer to the sea than to the historic center, the castle of San Fili is part of the territory of the municipality of Stignano, and it is not the only example of ancient architecture in the area. From the castle you can also move on foot following the dirt road to reach the nearby Torre San FIli and enjoy the splendid view once again, or you can continue northward at a time of the Byzantine church of Santa Maria Rosaria. Again, this is a ruined building in the middle of the Calabrian countryside, a real gem for the suggestions and emotions it can give.
