In Masciar
In Rapone, witches do not fly on broomsticks: their magical powers come from their knowledge of nature's secrets.

Who is A Masciar
A Masciar is a woman who knows the secrets of nature and the powers of herbs and plants; she is a keeper of ancient knowledge that allows her to use herbal mixtures to do good and heal many ailments--or even evil. In short, A Masciar is a witch! In her house at the edge of the village, there is always a piñata to prepare infusions, decoctions and magic potions. It is said that there are seven Masciars in every village, but recognizing them is not easy-there is only one way, at the Christmas Mass...
What A Masciar does
Often A Masciar comes to the square, wearing a headscarf and apron like the other women in the village, and blends in among them. She approaches and asks you for a small favor, perhaps a morsel of bread or a hairbrush. Never deny a favor to a Masciara: she will punish you with a spell or - even worse - come at night to the foot of your bed to pinch you!
Tips and remedies
If you happen to deny her the favor and make her angry, run to her immediately with bread or whatever she asked for and she will remove the spell. For your own safety, if you want to prevent her from entering your house, put a sorghum broom behind the door; or, hide open scissors under your pillow and she won't be able to go near your bed. Then there's a little bag that you could wear when you're out and about--but what's inside is a big secret!
What A Masciar teaches us
Teaches us about kindness and solidarity, especially between women: if someone asks us for a little help, it's okay to give it.
