A performance that evokes an immortal love in its extraordinary ‘theatrical’ dimension. D'Annunzio himself was aware of the need to narrate and mythologise his relationship with Duse through the novel-scandal Il Fuoco (The Fire), an irreverent and brazen narrative that was accused of outraging the actress, but which Duse herself defended.

With all the clamour now extinguished and forgotten, ‘L'Acqua e Il Fuoco’ is presented as a travelling show, made up of biographical, poetic and epistolary quotations that evoke the intimacy and vital energy of this overflowing passion: from the overwhelming beginning, to the golden years lived in the Fiesole hills, from the first betrayals to the suffering of abandonment, up to the dramatic epilogue with the announcement to the Poet of the Actress's sudden death during a tour in the United States.
