What we are going to do

A hike among wide panoramas, noble villas, monasteries, and ancient rural villages. Tremezzina is the name of a municipality overlooking Lago di Como, which since 2014 includes the municipalities of Tremezzo, Ossuccio, Mezzegra, and Lenno. Known mainly for the treasures it hosts from Villa del Balbianello to Villa Carlotta, just to name a few, which we have visited in other excursions; less known for the rocky walls and vast olive fields that hide small churches and ancient villages that were once home to noble villas with a rich history.

A route partly along the famous Greenway del Lago di Como and partly on mountain trails that are sometimes rocky but never dangerous, which will surprise you with the ancient villages that hide important noble villas but also ancient farmhouses now decorated with stunning collections of nativity scenes.

The itinerary starts from the navigation dock of Tremezzo (or Villa Carlotta, depending on the season) and immediately ascends to the small church of San Martino perched among the rocky walls overlooking Tremezzo and Griante, from which you can enjoy a fabulous panorama of Lago di Como, the Bellagio promontory up to the Lecco branch of Lario. The Grigne group with Grigna and Grignetta stand out with their carbonate rocks in the background, protecting the hills that descend towards the lake's shores. From village to village, from field to field, always with Lago di Como and the mountains framing it as a panorama, we will reach Lenno.

Technical details:
  • Elevation gain: 350 m
  • Length: 11 km
  • Maximum altitude: 445 m a.s.l.

General program:
  • 9.15 am meeting at the Villa Carlotta dock and start of the hike; packed lunch along the way.
  • 4.30/5.00 pm return to Lenno

The program and itinerary may vary depending on weather and trail conditions to ensure participants' safety but also according to the seasonal schedules of the navigation service. Suitable for adults and teenagers in good physical condition and training, as well as accustomed to walking in the mountains, considering the elevation gain and length of the route.

The hike is not suitable for people with heart, respiratory, postural, muscle problems, or significant overweight; or who have recently undergone surgery or are on significant medication; conditions that must be communicated to the guide in advance to assess feasibility.
