In a nutshell
The grape festival is dedicated to the Verdicchio DOC grape variety, to the exaltation of peasant tradition and the fertility of the earth. It is among the oldest in Italy, in fact the first edition dates back to 1928. Over the four days of the event, there is a parade of floats made by the town's districts that are inspired by themes related to the winemaking tradition with satirical allusions to political, social and historical topics as well.
The festival is fully experienced with traditional dances, such as the "saltarello" performed by local folk groups in costumes of ancient folk tradition, with songs that were once sung in the fields, but also with tastings of wine and local dishes. The event culminates with a fun and engaging moment, the "Palio del Verdicchio," a foot-pressing contest, just as it was done in the past. The evening continues with performances and concerts.
