Mate Festival of Lungro

In the Arbereshe community of Lungro, Mate has been consumed habitually for more than 150 years. The emigrants who returned to their homeland from Argentina taught the preparation, and then gradually the cultivation of the drink in Lungro. Thanks to Anna Stratigò, organizer of the Festival and founder of the International Mate Academy, this drink has become synonymous with cultural exchange, socialization and sharing of values. During the four days of the Festival, there will be many offerings for residents and visitors: workshops for the preparation of Mate, folk music, Argentine tango performances, theater, musical performances, tastings, painting exhibitions and much more.
