Lisetta Carmi. Five roads - Photo exhibition
At the Umbrian National Gallery in Perugia, the exhibition brings together the photographer's most significant shots
Within the very rich Umbra National Gallery there is a space dedicated exclusively to photographic art: "Camera Oscura." It is in this very space that the exhibition dedicated to Lisetta Carmi (Genoa 1924-2022), curated by Alessandra Mauro, is set up. The title recalls Carmi's many passions: first music, then social engagement, photography, travel, and finally spirituality in the ashram. The 23 works on display were created between the 1960s and 1970s. They touch on social issues that are still urgent today-the transvestites, the invisibles working at the port of Genoa-and themes that have always been dear to her, such as music. Intense and unmissable are the portraits of the American poet Ezra Pound, which earned her a major award. But it is her intense and respectful gaze, it is her ability to capture the soul of people and the complexity of everyday life that makes Lisetta Carmi an exceptional interpreter of our time. The exhibition can be visited during the Museum's opening hours, every day from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
