Holy Week in Milis

From the Sunday before Palm Sunday until Easter Sunday. This is the duration of Easter celebrations in Milis, in the province of Oristano. Why a week earlier? All the fault of two ancient brotherhoods that competed for the admiration of the villagers. One of them once decided to steal Su Puddu, a sacred banner fundamental to Milis' celebrations, which belonged to the rival confraternity. A gesture so daring that it has become a tradition to be repeated every year. This is followed by processions for Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. It is a splendid time to visit Milis and see the citizenry gathered around its spirituality and tradition.
