Historical re-enactment of the investiture of the Mastrogiurato
On the first Sunday in September, the investiture of the Mastrogiurato takes place.
The Reenactment History of the Investiture of the Mastrogiurato is a medieval festival celebrated annually in Lanciano since 1981. Today's celebration is a more amplified form of the classic original festivities, in which events reenacting the Middle Ages are celebrated with performances, music and dancing throughout the city's historic center, with the final election of the mastrogiurato, or lord of the festivities of Lanciano. Costumed figures include associations from the towns of Bucchianico, Ortona, L'Aquila and Rocca San Giovanni, as well as foreign masters.
