The Fig Festival of Bacchereto

Every year during the first two weekends of September, the town of Carmignano holds a festival dedicated to one of the quintessential seasonal products, the Bacchereto Fig. The September fruit is offered in numerous variations, sweet and savory, such as to accompany cured meats, crostini, penne al fico, tarts and many other specialties. There is no shortage of other traditional dishes such as "covaccini all'olio e con i ciccioli," cooked in the village's ancient wood-fired oven. Further enlivening the event are exhibitions on Bacchereto's ancient majolica tiles, a local crafts market and food walks along the village streets.
