The festival in honor of Our Lady of the Chain

Ancient stories tell that it was sailors from Bruzzano and Ferruzzano who found a precious alabaster statue on the beach: it depicted the Madonna and Child, with a blackberry boy in chains at her feet. They loaded it onto an ox-drawn wagon to take it to the village, but when they reached the halfway point between Bruzzano and Ferruzzano, the oxen stopped and did not want to continue. It was there that the Shrine of Our Lady of the Chain was built.

But the Bruzzanites wanted her closer, so they decided to make a copy to keep and worship in their church. Since then, Our Lady of Bruzzano Church has been carried in procession to the small shrine, and for three days the two Madonnas are close together, surrounded by the prayers and songs of the faithful. On Sunday, towards evening, Our Lady of Bruzzano is brought back in solemn procession to her church.
