The Feast of St. George and the Running of the Oxen

On the occasion of St. George's Day, a special procession is held every year in Caresana, traversing the streets of the town with festively decorated wagons pulled by oxen with garlands and caparison. The procession accompanies the Saint's relics to the church where Holy Mass is celebrated. At the end of the liturgical celebration, at twelve o'clock sharp, the mayor has the task of kicking off an exciting ox-drawn cart race. The winner is the one who reaches the "cavetto" first and is rewarded with a small prize.
