San Quirico Polenta Festival
A tasty and historic event in the small town of Vernio
Every year on the last Sunday of February in San Quirico, a hamlet in the municipality of Vernio, there is an important historical event-the "Polenta Festival"-which commemorates the great generosity of the Bardi Counts, who saved the population from a severe famine by distributing free chestnut polenta, herring and codfish.
The event is enlivened by a historical procession, performances by flag-wavers, musicians, and of course the tastiest and most anticipated moment, the distribution of the portions of sweet polenta, herring and codfish. There is no shortage of food stands to taste other typical products as well, such as chestnut cake and sweet pancakes.
