The Contention of the 'Nzegna

During the second week of August in Falerone there is an important traditional festival-the Contesa del la 'Nzegna (insignia)-in which the simple life that punctuated the daily life of the village is re-enacted. During the festival, a procession is held through the streets of the old town center of floats - handmade from natural materials such as straw, wood and seeds - pulled by oxen. The floats are followed by a parade in historical costumes and a series of games and activities in which the town's eight contrade compete to win the banner. There is no shortage of dancing and food and local craft booths.
