Mondavio's Wild Boar Hunt

Every year in August Mondavio commemorates the pompous procession that moved from Urbino for the acquisition of the new Roveresque estates and especially the arrival of Giovanni della Rovere - nephew of Pope Sixtus IV - in Mondavio on the occasion of his wedding to Giovanna Feltria, daughter of Federico da Montefeltro. The historic center of Mondavio for the occasion is traversed by a marvelous procession in historic costumes, archery and crossbow competitions, flag and ribbon games, dances and music of the period. In addition, the village taverns offer visitors traditional dishes, also recovering ancient recipes. The main moment of the festival takes place with the Banquet, which revives the ancient splendor amid music and entertainment, according to the customs of those years.
