The Flight of Cecco Santi in Vinci

Every year in Vinci, the story of Captain Cecco di Santi, a soldier in Vinci's army who for the love of a noblewoman was guilty of treason to his own town and for this he was condemned to be thrown from the tower of the Conti Guidi Castle, is re-enacted. Before his condemnation, he was promised salvation in case he managed to survive. The miracle happened and Cecco reached the hill in front of the fortress. That same year the peasants managed to have bountiful harvests. To commemorate this miraculous and amazing event, a historical procession is held on the last Wednesday of July, reenacting the highlights of the story. The festival ends with a fireworks display.
