Feast of the Most Holy Crucifix and Games of the Contrade

Every second weekend in August, the Feast of the Most Holy Crucifix in Monte San Martino unites the sacred with the profane. On the one hand, highly attended religious events such as Holy Masses and the Procession; on the other, the fierce games among the Contrade, who compete in the egg race or in trump tournaments and what have you. But after the challenge, it's party time all together, with the band and live music and food and wine stands. The art sites of Monte San Martino-and among them the church of San Martino Vescovo with the extraordinary Crivelli polyptychs-are open all day.
